Communication

COMMUNICATION PROGRAM FOR EMPLOYEE AND FACTORY WORKERS –  EMEA OPERATIONS OF LARGE INTERNATIONAL COMPANY

Analysis

  • No cohesion between countries, the factories and offices operated as two completely different worlds
  • Organization objectives and strategy not well known by the employees and completely unknown to the factory workers (50 % of the workforce) in the EMEA factories
  • Communication via email and intranet did not reach the workforce
  • In general workers did not feel they were part of a wider organization
  • Safety issue as too many work accidents that proper communication and training could have avoided
  • Security awareness becoming a top priority

Approach

  • We started with a survey regarding awareness of company values, strategy and objectives.  2 campaigns, an on-line survey for the office employees and face to face workshops in the factories, with team representatives
  • We organized half day workshop with each group where we not only asked questions, exchanged views but also gave basic information
  • We developed an online newsletter for office employees and a printed version for the factories for distribution at meeting points (cafeteria, coffee rooms, locker rooms)
  • We organized meetings with team leaders and gave them the tools to inform and train their respective teams
  • We installed displays for key messages in the lobby and cafeteria of the factories
  • We organized quarterly briefings in both offices and factories to keep the teams informed, and always closed the session with a customer success story so that workers could feel the actual impact of their work.
  • We organized specific safety workshops in factories and developed safety videos for the newsletters, the meetings and the displays.

Results

  • The employee engagement survey results improved drastically.
  • We reached the EMEA safety objectives
  • The readership of both the electronic newsletter and the printed ones increased by 20% and we succeeded in stimulating the interaction (contribution to the articles, comments, suggestions)
